European Antitrust Regulators To Rule On Apple's Beats Deal By July 30
Antitrust regulators in Europe will rule by the end of July on whether or not they approve of Apple's bid to buy music streaming service and audio equipment maker, Beats. U.S. regulators have yet to set a date on when they will rule on the deal. Both regulators must approve of the deal before it can be completed. Apple announced in May that it wants to join the music streaming party. Apple is paying roughly $3 billion to own both Beats' streaming music and iconic headphones, that's the most Apple has ever paid for an acquisition. European antitrust officials will examine the deal and decide whether it eliminates competition. They can approve the deal, demand concessions, or open an investigation and call for additional analysis. If the deal gets approval from both sets of regulators, Beats will become part of Apple in the fall.
