European stock markets edged lower on Friday, having partially recovered by late morning from early losses on disappointing German economic data, as investors waited for non-farm payrolls figures from the U.S. for the month of July. The German Federal Statistical Office said output fell 1.4% in June from the month before, defying expectations for an increase of 0.4%. In Milan Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the world’s oldest lender which failed European Central Bank stress tests late last year, leaped after swinging back into the black in the second quarter. But tire maker Nokian Renkaat plunged in Helsinki after cutting its full-year forecast.
