EU Finance Ministers to Hold Special Meeting About Greece's Debts
The eurozone's finance ministers are to hold a special meeting next Wednesday to discuss Greece's debts, a day ahead of a summit of European Union leaders. Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the head of the so-called eurogroup, said Friday that the meeting will center on Greece. In return for rescue cash from its partners in the eurozone and the IMF, successive Greek governments have had to impose a raft of spending cuts and tax increases which have stifled the country's economy. Following a meeting with Greece and Germany's finance ministers, Greece's Varoufakis said the Greek government is looking for a bridging program between now and the end of May to give room for talks on 'a new contract' with the European Central Bank, IMF, and European Union.
