Equal Pay Day By The Numbers
Equal Pay Day was started by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 and it's always on Tuesday to "represent how far into the next work week women must work to earn what men earned the previous week."
We thought it would be interesting to ask Wall Street passerby some statistics surrounding why Equal Pay Day is a necessity, and many were shocked at the numbers from the National Committee on Pay Equity.
Questions included:
How many cents on the dollar do women make in comparison to men?
A: 79.6 or 80 cents
If current trends continue, in what year will women receive equal pay?
A: 2059
What do you think the loss in lifetime earnings is for a college-educated woman?
A: $800,000
