Energy Efficient Buildings Could Save Government Billions a Year

Johnson Controls' project to make Hawaii's 12 airports more energy efficient is expected to save the state more than $500 million dollars in energy costs over the next twenty years. Johnson Control¿s Clay Nessler says the project is expected to reduce energy usage by 49-percent after the installation of more than 9,000 solar panels and 75,000 lighting fixtures. Nessler says for government buildings at all levels the most appealing aspect is no out-of-pocket cost to taxpayers because the project pays for itself with the utility bill savings.
