Elon Musk Wants to Go to Mars. It's Not Cheap to Get There
Elon Musk's idea to send people to Mars could cost tens of billions of dollars.
Tesla Motors (TSLA) - Get Report CEO Elon Musk has detailed his plan to send people to colonize the planet Mars with the other company he runs, SpaceX. The cost of such a trip could be tens of billions of dollars. Musk says a Mars spaceship could carry 100 people, and he'd like to pin the cost at $200,000 a person. It's not clear how Musk would pay for the SpaceX spaceship to take everyone there, but he did say the mission would have to be a public private partnership.
