Elon Musk wants you to know that he is not the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.
Tesla's (TSLA) - Get Tesla Inc Report CEO responded to a blog post which was written by Sahil Gupta, a former intern at SpaceX, that stated Satoshi Nakamoto "is probably Elon". Gupta based his assertion on the fact that Bitcoin's source code was written by someone who is a master of C++, a language that was used heavily at SpaceX. The former intern also pointed to Elon Musk's in-depth understanding of economics and cryptography as further evidence that he is more than capable of being the elusive figure behind the cryptocurrency.
Musk shot down the speculation in a tweet, saying "Not true. A friend sent me part of a BTC a few years, but I don't know where it is."
Satoshi Nakamoto published a whitepaper that talked about Bitcoin in 2008 and released Version 0.1 of the cryptocurrency's software in 2009. However, the true identity of Nakamoto has remained a mystery despite several attempts to unmask him.
Newsweek claimed that a 64 year old Japanese-American called Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto was behind the cryptocurrency in 2014. However, the man vehemently denied having something to do with creating the digital currency.
In 2016, Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright claimed he was the founder of Bitcoin. However, experts on the digital currency are sceptical of Wright's claims because h has not yet provided proof, as he promised, by moving bitcoins around from the first 'blocks'.
It seems that the true identity of the creator of bitcoin will remain a mystery - At least for now.
