The firm behind these classic 80's commercials is back.
The firm behind these classic '80s commercials is back. This is what happened to one of the most famous names in finance. In 1985, the original E.F. Hutton pleaded guilty to wire & mail fraud. Then in the late 1980s, American Express purchased the firm for an amount equivalent to $2.2 billion today. Around 2000, it became part of Citigroup. In 2012, the company was sold to a new management team that included E.F. Hutton's grandson. Today, the new E.F. Hutton is focusing on digital and mobile investing.
