Stocks were mixed in midday trading Tuesday as disappointing earnings dragged on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and capped gains on the S&P 500. DuPont (DD) was one of the worst performers on the Dow after quarterly sales dropped nearly 10% due to declining volumes and the negative impact of currency exchange. Dow component Verizon (VZ) was also lower after an in-line quarter and following its commitment to offer customizable TV subscriptions. The pick-and-choose option hasn't pleased Disney's (DIS) ESPN, which argues the offering violates current contracts. Under Armor (UA) reported a double-digit decline in profit.
