1948 William Rosenberg opened Open Kettle, a restaurant selling donuts and coffee in Quincy, Massachusetts.

1950The name was changed to Dunkin' Donuts and the original mascot was named Dunkie.

Dunkin' became a pioneer in its early days when it offered 52 kinds of donuts.

1990The chain was acquired by Baskin-Robbins owner Allied Lyons.

2003CEO Jon Luther's idea to change the company's focus from doughnuts to coffee revitalized the brand. 

2006Dunkin' Donuts changed its slogan to "America Runs on Dunkin'".

2018The brand downplayed "Donuts" from it's name by Shortening its name to Dunkin'

Dunkin' now sells 30 cups of coffee every second, on average, or 1.7 billion cups of hot and iced coffee globally per year. 

Dunkin Brands got its start in 1948.  That's when William Rosenberg focused his mission. His goal? He said he wanted "to make and serve the freshest, most delicious coffee and donuts quickly and courteously in well merchandised stores'. 

So, Rosenberg opened "Open Kettle" in Quincy, Massachusetts. The price for a good cup of coffee? It was just five cents in those days.

Over the next 10 years, Rosenberg opened another 100 coffee shops.

1955. The first Dunkin' Donuts (DNKN - Get Report) opened

1972. Munchkins donut holes were introduced

2016. On-the-Go Ordering was introduced

2018. After 68 years Dunkin' Donuts changed to Dunkin'
