The Dow and S&P 500 were able to close the day in positive territory after spending most of the session in the red. Weighed down by a lagging tech sector, the Nasdaq was unable to gain today, though it did pare its losses from earlier in the session Thursday.

Apple (AAPL) - Get Report investors weren't as lucky as reports of week demand for the company's flagship iPhone products sent shares tumbling. Taiwan's Economic Daily newspaper reported that the company has informed several suppliers that it will cut orders for iPhone 8 related components by as much as 50%.

Shares of Verizon (VZ) - Get Report benefited from better-than-expected third quarter earnings. The company earnings 98 cents per share in the quarter, beating analyst expectations by a penny.
