Stocks ended a volatile week on the right foot, closing out with modest gains. The Dow Jones Industrial added 98 points, while the S&P 500 gained 0.5% and the Nasdaq jumped 0.43%. The industrial sector was the best performer, led by GE (GE) which surged on a multi-billion-dollar real estate deal. Other winners in the space included Caterpillar (CAT) which added more than 2% and Boeing (BA). Symantec (SYMC) spiked more than 4% in the final minutes of trading on reports the company is exploring the sale of Veritas, its data storage and recovery business. That sale could fetch more than $8 billion.
