The strength of the U.S. economy is helping in the Trump administration's trade negotiation with China, but one expert isn't underestimating China.
"We're kidding ourselves if we think that the U.S. really is in a greater position or has more leverage than China," said Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco, and a panelist on TheStreet's monthly Trading Strategies roundtable. "China has the ability to play a long game here - while the economy decelerating, [they] have a President for life."
Hooper said in the U.S., President Trump is dependent on midterm elections.
"China has prepared [for the U.S. tariffs] and is willing to play that long game," Hooper added.
