Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump will attract more support within his party, said real estate mogul Don Peebles. ‘One of the pushbacks from the Republican party establishment against Donald was that he couldn’t beat Hillary Clinton,’ Peebles said, who is CEO of the Peebles Corporation, a real estate development company. But Trump continues to gain steam, closing in on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the polls. Clinton now leads Trump by just 6 points in a new CNN/ORC poll out this week, with 51 percent of respondents favoring Clinton and 45 percent supporting Trump. The gap stood at 16 points in July and 24 points in June. ‘Now that the gap is narrowing, that will help propel Trump to even greater support in the Republican party,’ Peebles said. Peebles, one of the richest African-Americans in the U.S., according to Forbes with an estimated $700 million net worth, may be stepping up the political stage, mulling a run for mayor of New York City. ‘I’m giving it very serious consideration,’ Peebles said. ‘I was a big supporter of Mayor Bill de Blasio and I believed he was going to move the needle forward in terms of solving and addressing the housing crisis New York City residents face every day and expand opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses. He has not done either one of those.’ TheStreet’s Scott Gamm reports from New York.
