Donald Trump suggested that Puerto Rico's debt will have to be wiped out in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday.

The President said "they owe a lot of money to your friends on Wall Street and we're going to have to wipe that out. You're going to say goodbye to that." Puerto Rico has nearly $70 billion in debt and a 45% poverty rate.

Trump visited Puerto Rico on Tuesday, 12 days after Hurricane Maria destroyed the island's infrastructure, where he stated that the territory has thrown America's budget "out of whack".

Puerto Rico's official death toll after the hurricane more than doubled on Tuesday to 34 according to a spokesman for Governor Ricardo Rosello.
