There is way more going on in the business of selling pizza nowadays than the appearance of skinny pies with funky ingredients. The giants of the industry, such as Domino’s Pizza and Papa John’s, were built on the ability to franchise. Franchising has allowed for quick expansion by those folks with entrepreneurial mindsets. It’s a model that has also been a nice job contributor in the U.S. However, franchising has come under attack, especially at Burger King and McDonald’s, amid outcries of low hourly pay for workers. But franchising aside, the traditional fast food makers are being targeted by upstart, fast casual chains such as privately held Blaze Pizza and Chipotle’s Pizzeria Locale.
