If something is happening in multiple places and its use is accelerating then it is a sustainable business trend and not a short-lived fad, said Rohit Bhargava, author of 'Non-Obvious.' Bhargava said Disney's personalized MagicBand technology is a good example of a trend because it will spark innovation in the retail space as stores use it as a model for their in-store experiences. Another trend he sees in the market is 'branded benevolence' which includes Tesla opening up patents and CVS stopping sales of tobacco. Finally, Bhargava said 'selfie confidence' is a trend worth watching as young people increasingly use selfies to build self esteem.
