Disney+ Surpasses 40 Million Subscribers
Disney’s (DIS) - Get The Walt Disney Company Report darling streaming platform Disney+ launched in November 2019.
Since then, it’s been on a growth tear, adding millions of subscribers who are attracted to the platform’s family-friendly content.
Now, Disney+ has surpassed 40 million subscribers, which is 25 percent of Netflix’s (NFLX) - Get Netflix Inc. Report total audience. Not bad for under three months.
Disney+ charges $6.99 per month to join and memberships have generated $97.2 million for Disney since launch.
Disney+ was also the most downloaded app in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2019.
It’s a crowded landscape for streaming, with platforms like Netflix, Amazon (AMZN) - Get Amazon.com Inc. Report Prime, Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV undefined, and more all competing for eyeballs. HBO Max (HBO) , Peacock, and Quibi are new entrants to the “streaming wars” of 2020.
