Disney Expands Movies Anywhere App as Digital Spending Increases

Walt Disney is expanding its cloud-based Movies Anywhere application to Google Android. Until now, the service had only been available on Apple devices. In February, Disney unveiled the movie service for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and the Web via the Movies Anywhere app, Web site or Apple iTunes. Now, movies purchased through Google Play will be available on computers, Android mobile devices and TVs using Google's Chromecast device. This, as more consumers turn to digital content. Digital Entertainment Group found that electronic sell-through of digital home entertainment in the first half of 2014 rose 36.8% year-over-year to about $671.3 million. Disney reports fiscal full year and fourth quarter earnings results on November 6.
