Shares of Delta Air Lines (DAL) - Get Report were lower Wednesday after it canceled a deal for 18 Boeing (BA) - Get Report jets. The Atlanta-based airline inherited an order for more than a dozen Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft as part of its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines. But Delta canceled the order, which is valued at more than $4 billion at current list prices, saying the decision is consistent with Delta's fleet strategy to address its widebody aircraft needs.

The cancellation comes as Delta is planning to slow its flight capacity growth heading into 2017 in order to improve its revenue per available seat.
