The rise of the computerized, connected world in which we now live makes for a long, sprawling story, one that Walter Isaacson tells very well in his new book, 'The Innovators: How a Group of Hackers, Geniuses and Geeks created the Digital Revolution'. Isaacson began the book more than a decade ago and put it aside to write the biography of Steve Jobs, which was published just weeks after Jobs' death three years ago. That work was a detailed portrait of a central figure in American business and technology. 'The Innovators' delves into the development of the mathematics and science that underlie the machines we use every day as it offers entertaining sketches of dozens of people.
