A huge damage award against Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) - Get Report has been cut in half by a judge. The company had faced the possibility of a billion-dollar payout to plaintiffs in six lawsuits against its DePuy Orthopaedics division for faulty hip implants.
Now the company owes damages of a little more than $500 million.
J&J will still appeal the court case, and the company is facing lawsuits from more than 8,000 plaintiffs over the faulty devices. The suits claim that the company failed to warn doctors and consumers about possible complications from the device.
