Curiosity in the Currency Markets
Pound and dollar slide.
U.K. inflation slowed for the first time in nine months in June, according to data published Tuesday by Britain's Office for National Statistics, sending the pound sharply lower against the U.S. dollar.
Consumer prices rose at a 2.6% pace last month, the ONS said, missing analysts' forecasts of a 2.9% reading.
The pound, which had been trading at a 10-month high against the U.S. dollar prior to the release, fell more than 0.6% to change hands at 1.3021 by 09:45 London time as traders trimmed bets on an early rate hike from the Bank of England.
