Consumer discretionary stocks will finally reap the benefits of lower prices at the pump in the coming quarter, says Doug Roman, portfolio manager of the PNC Large Cap Growth Fund. Many investors have been disappointed because the drop in gas prices has not translated into increased sales at stores and restaurants. Roman believes this will change in coming months and the consumer discretionary sector has a wide range of options to take advantage of this transition. Roman also said the stronger dollar has become much more of a factor in companies missing Wall Street estimates so far this earnings season than anticipated. Finally, he said active managers will perform far better against the indexes in 2015.
