Commercial Real Estate an Attractive Alternative Says Inland CEO

Commercial real estate has seen significant price appreciation since 2008, but there are still pockets of opportunity outside the 10 largest metropolitan areas, said Mitchell Sabshon, CEO of Inland Investments. Sabshon added that he prefers to invest in projects with short term leases like retail, multi-tenant apartments and self storage because of the ability to raise rents in a growing economy. He said the lack of construction in the past 5 years has helped hold down supply even as demand continues to rise. Furthermore, Sabshon said non-listed REITs can play a valuable role in a portfolio due to their lack of correlation to stocks and bonds.
