Clubhouse, the drop-in audio chat app, topped 8 million downloads in the iOS app store.  There was a dramatic boost in downloads after Elon Musk, Tesla  (TSLA)  CEO and founder, invited Russia's Vladimir Putin to chat.

The social media platform has some growing competition. Here are a few:

  • House Party is designed for social hangouts and integrates with Snapchat
  • Facebook  (FB)  CatchUp app allows group calls without being a Facebook member.
