Closing Bell: Wall Street Closes in Red as Financial, Energy Sectors Drag Stocks Lower

Stocks stayed in negative territory Thursday in lighter volume ahead of the three-day Easter weekend. The financials and energy sectors led the decline, while the U.S. launched a bomb in Afghanistan. Tesla (TSLA) - Get Report shares rose after CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet that the company will reveal its semi-truck in September and that the truck will be "seriously next level." Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) - Get Report jumped more than 10% after pre-announcing that first-quarter earnings will be as high as $1.02 a share, up from prior guidance of 80 cents to 88 cents a share. Finally, PNC Bank (PNC) - Get Report shares were up after the bank reported earnings of $1.96 a share on revenue of $3.88 billion, beating quarterly estimates.
