U.S. stocks ended Friday's session near lows as a number of disappointing retailers spooked investors looking ahead to the end of the earnings season. Earnings disappointments from J.C.Penney (JCP) - Get Report and Nordstrom (JWN) - Get Report exacerbated worries over retail. Oil ended Friday lower, though pared losses after the number of active oil rigs in the U.S. fell for the eighth week in a row. Nvidia (NVDA) - Get Report was sharply higher after quarterly profit jumped nearly 50 percent on growth in the video game segment. The graphics chipmaker also projected current-quarter sales higher than analysts expected. PepsiCo (PEP) - Get Report slid more than one percent this afternoon after Trian Fund Management disclosed it had unloaded its stake.
