Closing Bell: Fed Reaffirms Faith in U.S. Economy; Stocks End Mixed
Wall Street came off of session lows with the Dow Jones Industrial Average even turning higher after the Federal Reserve reaffirmed its faith in the strength of the U.S. economy. The central bank noted that economic growth had slowed in the first quarter, though viewed it as transitory. The FOMC opted to leave rates unchanged and made no adjustments to its balance sheet policy. The Fed again underlined its commitment to a gradual pace of normalization. Weight Watchers (WTW) - Get Report rallied after swinging to a quarterly profit. The weight-loss company also reported a 4% increase in quarterly sales, while the number of subscribers increased by 16%. Yum! Brands (YUM) - Get Report rose after quarterly adjusted earnings topped consensus and the company saw strong sales growth across most of its brands. Same-store sales at KFC rose 2%, while Taco Bell increased 8%.
