Closing Bell: American Girl Sales Boost Mattel; Crude Closes Under $51
U.S. stocks ended Thursday in the red after crude oil closes under $51 a barrel. Oil retreated from the year's highs set a day earlier. Mattel (MAT) - Get Report jumped after a turnaround in its American Girl brand delivered strong results in its third quarter. The parent company of Barbie also pointed to increased distribution at Toys R Us and Kohl's which helped propel net income 5% higher. Kinder Morgan (KMI) - Get Report rose despite posting a surprise loss in its third quarter. The energy infrastructure company also posted a larger-than-expected decline in revenue as the industry continued to be beaten up by low oil prices. FMC Technologies (FTI) - Get Report climbed after settling an SEC investigation into whether it overstated its profits back in 2013. The company settled for a relatively small $2.5 million penalty.
