Chinese auto-maker NIO, which specializes in autonomous electric vehicles, was founded in 2014 by William Li.

The company, which has been compared to Tesla, filed for a $1.8 billion IPO in 2016 on the NYSE. That same year it opened it's first three minute charging station in China, and was issued an "autonomous vehicle testing permit" in California.

There are currently two signature vehicles in the company's line-up: The EP9, a two door coupe, and the ES8 a 5-door SUV.

As of August 2018, they have only sold 481 cars, but have 15,000 ordered and are capable of producing 500,000 cars per year.
