China "will absolutely not sit by" if the U.S. damages trade ties. The remarks came after President Trump established an inquiry into China's alleged theft of intellectual property. The inquiry will give U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer a year to decide whether to launch a formal investigation
China's Ministry of Commerce criticized the move and said the U.S. should "treasure" the relationship between the two states.
"If the U.S. side ignores the facts, and disrespects multilateral trade principles in taking actions that harms both sides trade interests, China will absolutely not sit by and watch," said China's Ministry of Commerce.
