Even after last year's rally and January's dip, the chart for the S&P looks bullish, says Schaeffer's Investment Research Senior Technical Analyst Ryan Detrick. The January sell-off added a necessary dose of fear from a technical perspective, according to Detrick, and March and April have seasonally been great months for investors over the past two decades. Gold should also be bought due to the improving price action, says Detrick. Finally, Detrick says volatility should remain muted for the foreseeable future despite many strategists calling for a rise in the VIX.
