This Veterans Day, we celebrate those veterans who served our nation and continue to use their skills, training and leadership qualities in the CEO roles which they now serve.

In 1980, 59% of CEOs leading U.S. public corporations came from a military background. In 2009, that percentage had fallen to 8% according to Vista College. Although the number has dwindled, there are still many notable CEOs who have in some cases founded and then risen to become leaders of Fortune 500 companies.

Some of the most prominent CEOs who are also veterans are:

Alex Gorsky, chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson  (JNJ) - Get Free Report
