The U.S.-China trade relationship may be uncertain, but don't take China's economic prowess lightly, especially when it comes to the cruise ship industry.

"China someday is going to be the largest cruise market in the world," said Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation ( CCL) . "There's no question about that and the question is what role are we going to play and how are we going to participate."

When asked what inning Carnival is in for the China cruise market, Donald said it's "spring training" - that is, the game hasn't even begun yet.

"It's very early - we're happy with China, it's been challenging at times," he said, adding that the company has five ships in the region.

On Wednesday, Carnival Corporation unveiled its 26th ship, Horizon, which was docked on New York's Hudson River port.
