The timing of Federal Reserve's November policy meeting Wednesday is tricky, according to one expert: less than one week before a pivotal U.S. presidential election and in the middle of a selloff in global markets driven by uncertainty surrounding the election's outcome. "I'm not necessarily sure there's anything [the Fed] can say which can truly offset the worry people have about the outcome of the election," said James Athey, fixed income manager at Aberdeen Asset Management, based in London, adding that he expects a balanced Fed statement that keeps a December rate hike in play.
