Caitlyn Jenner And Contrarian Ideas To Shape 2016 Global Trends
2016 Will see people globally continue to embrace contrarian ideas and celebrate diversity. Ford Motor's Futurist Sheryl Connelly said that after a year which saw marriage equality become U.S. law and a very public transition for Caitlyn Jenner the conversation around sex and gender identity has come into the mainstream. Connelly said, 'the trend of fit for misfits really came out of the news headlines we were seeing in 2015...The difference between sexual identity and gender identity was a conversation we really haven't seen. Fit for misfits recognizes that one size fits all is no longer relevant and that brands that really want to engage with consumers really have to understand the spectrum of which we have our identities.' Ford conducted a survey in eight global markets and found that 53 percent of adults under the age of 35 say standing out is more important than fitting in. But, it's not just about being different, Ford also found that 69 percent of adults around the world said that celebrating contrarian ideas are critical to shaping great ideas. Connelly said, 'if you're going to take on complicated or creative types of work, you need some dissenters, you need people that are going to challenge your point of view and that's really what we're celebrating.'
