A California judge has suspended pop star Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, from his role as conservator. A hearing to determine whether Jamie Spears should be completely removed from the conservatorship is scheduled for November 12.

In the ruling, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny gave a nod to CPA John Zabel, who was named temporary conservator by Spears’ lawyer.

Spears, 39, has been dominating headlines due to her legal battle against her father to free herself from a conservatorship. Jamie Spears has been Britney's conservator for 13 years.

So, what is a conservatorship?

Conservatorship is a legal concept where a court appoints a person to manage the personal and financial affairs of those who cannot decide for themselves. Most of the time, conservatorships are awarded to elderly, physically or mentally challenged people.

Jamie Spears became Britney’s conservator in 2008 to oversee the pop singer's personal and financial affairs. However, he stepped down from his role as Britney's personal conservator in 2019 amid health issues, placing state-appointed Jodi Montgomery to handle Spears' non-financial needs.
