Brexit May Be Hard for UK Food and Drink Exporters to Digest
The Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City features thousands of exhibitors, including several specialty food companies from the United Kingdom and Scotland. In between all the noshing, there was plenty of talk about Brexit. Nick Dillon with McGhee's Family Bakers in Scotland says the Brexit vote shouldn't impact day to day operations in the countries in which McGhee's does business. 'If we have to fill out different forms, comply with slightly different protocols, then we will do that,' he said. British chocolate maker Willie Harcourt-Cooze, of Wille's Cacao, says 'people have voted against themselves economically. And they haven't realized that.' According to the UK based Food & Drink Exporters Association, the UK food and beverage industry exported over 70 percent of their products to the EU in 2015.
