Blade Runner 2049 Topped a Disappointing Weekend Box Office
Coming in at an estimated $31.5 million according to Box Office Mojo, the sequel to 1982's Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, may have led the weekend box office, but it fell well below its opening weekend expectations. The film was widely expected to bring in between $45 and $55 million domestically.
The original film starring Harrison Ford brought in $6.1 million during its premiere weekend 35 years ago. It became iconic due to its gloomy look into a dystopian 2019 where artificial intelligence has spiraled out of control. Will 2049's version of Elon Musk's worst nightmare find better ticket sales in the coming weeks?
Following behind in Blade Runner 2049's footsteps were The Mountain Between Us and 2017's remake of It.
