BlackRock: Buy Cheap Japanese Stocks Despite Recession Talk

Japanese stocks offer a buying opportunity despite recent evidence of a recession, said Heidi Richardson, Head of iThinking Investment Strategy at BlackRock. Richardson said Japanese stocks offer one of the few values still available in the global equity market, adding that there is more to the Japan story than a weakening currency. She said the significant drop in oil will benefit the Japanese economy since the country is a major oil importer. Furthermore, she said exports to a growing U.S. economy will more than offset any drop in exports due to a struggling Europe or a slowing China.
