Are you interested in the space race?

You may have heard, Richard Branson, who founded Virgin Galactic, announced Tuesday that he plans to take the company public.

Branson plans to take Virgin Galactic public by merging it with an existing company--Social Capital Hedosophia--in a $1.3 billion deal.

Virgin Galactic would be the first publicly traded company to focus on space travel company to allow tourists to go into space.

Pretty cool, right?

Believe it or not -  it is not the first company to focus on the idea of sending people--meaning non-astronauts--into space.  Who are the others?

Elon Musk and SpaceX

Elon Musk, who is the CEO of SpaceX, has a similar dream.SpaceX is heavily interested in colonizing Mars instead of just allowing people to go to space.

Jeff Bezos and Blue Origins

But Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon (AMZN - Get Report) , has a dream more similar to Branson's.

Bezos's Blue Origins focuses on making the idea of space travel for the layman a reality.

So, it seems that Part Two of the Race to Space is on. Which one of these billionaires will win?
