Big Box Retail Is Making a Comeback and At Home Is in the Sweet Spot of the Trend
The retail sector has had to navigate big box store trends, to online, back to big box leading into click-to-brick. At Home is firmly rooted in the big box model and CEO Lee Bird tells TheStreet’s Jill Malandrino the company carries over 50,000 home decor items, in fact, each store is the size of a Costco. While At Home is not in the omnichannel yet, customers spend an average of two hours in the super stores. Bird says the company has seen 20% store growth and positive same-store sales data in 21 states with 81 stores. At Home is planning on expanding within the markets it is currently based, as well as areas outside of the footprint. Bird says each department has a competitor in companies like a Wal-Mart, Pier 1 or Wayfair, but the advantage At Home has is all the products, across all verticals are available under one roof.
