Best Day This Year for S&P 500, Nasdaq; Dow Closes Up 215 Points
Stocks rallied on Wall Street to make it the best day in 2014 for the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. The Dow Industrials closed above 200 points despite being dragged by some disappointing earnings results. IBM (IBM), Coca-Cola (KO) and McDonald's (MCD) were the Blue Chips' only decliners. Oil prices rising drove energy stocks to lead today's gains. Chevron (CVX) was the Dow component's biggest percentage advancer. Chipotle Mexican Grill ICMG) was one of the most active stocks to the downside. The Mexican fast-food chain reported decent earnings but guided future growth will slow. Starbucks' (SBUX) latest promotion giving away Starbucks for Life didn't stop it from being the Nasdaq's worst performer. The earnings season is still full swing. Dow Components AT&T (T), Boeing (BA) will report tomorrow. Along with Cheesecake Factory (CAKE), which closed down more than 4%.
