Bernie Madoff is back in the spotlight. Seven years after his multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme came to light, a new miniseries airing on ABC depicts the epic scandal. ‘Parts of it were very accurate,’ said Matthew L. Schwartz, a partner at law firm Boies, Schiller and Flexner LLP and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, who prosecuted five of Madoff’s former employees. The miniseries, ‘Madoff,’ aired on Wednesday evening. The second part airs on Thursday night. Other accurate details of the program, according to Schwartz, were Madoff’s employees attempting to make newly printed documents look decades old. In the show, these documents were placed in a microwave. Schwartz acknowledged that Madoff fooled a lot of people, as his scheme spanned 40 years until his very public arrest in Dec. 2008. ‘[Madoff] was the Chairman of the Nasdaq, he had a reputable brokerage firm and he had high profile clients and delivered consistent but not outlandish returns. His paperwork all looked immaculate,’ he said. TheStreet’s Scott Gamm has details from Wall Street.
