The new 8th generation video game consoles from Sony and Microsoft are helping spur the gaming industry, which is suffering from poor software sales. Total hardware sales rose to $196.2 million last month, up from $90.8 million a year earlier. All of this occurred despite a 21% decline in revenue sales of video game software. In the battle between the two consoles, PlayStation 4 beat out Xbox One in hardware sales for an eighth consecutive month and remains the cumulative leader for next generation game consoles.
