In the latest round of data breaches in recent months, AT&T says an employee gained unauthorized access to about 1,600 customer’s personal data in August. The company said the employee may have obtained social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and AT&T services information that customers subscribed to. Federal authorities have been notified regarding the incident, and the employee has since been fired, the carrier said. A&T said it is directly contacting the customers affected by the breach and will reverse any unauthorized charges that users may see, and offer one year of free credit monitoring to affected customers.
