Hurricane Matthew is being dubbed the storm of the century. Now is not the time to let your homeowners insurance policy gather dust, according to Los Angeles-based insurance recovery lawyer Linda Kornfeld, a partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman. Polices tend to vary with some only covering wind damage, instead of flood damage. Once you are safe and the storm has passed, Kornfeld suggests contacting the insurance company as soon as possible to discuss the nature of your home's damage.
