'As Goes January, So Goes the Year' May Prove True in 2015

With nearly two weeks of trading behind us in 2015, Howard Silverblatt, senior index analyst at S&P Dow Jones Indices, weighs in on how January is foreshadowing the rest of the year. Silverblatt calls the action so far a bit more volatile than anticipated, but says the earnings season that is just beginning will be the big determinant for how the rest of the month goes. As far as the saying, 'As goes January, so goes the year,' Silverblatt says he places some credence upon it having studied markets' behavior in past years. However, there are some sectors that are bound to be hot in 2015 no matter how January goes. Silverblatt says health care and financials are two areas likely to see upside in 2015.
