Should investors worry about a recession in 2020?
Kenny Polcari, senior market strategist with SlateStone Wealth says no.
When asked whether or not he saw either a recession or an earnings recession in 2020, Polcari answered:
"I don't see recession to describe either earnings and or the economy in 2020. So I think what we're going to see is earnings come back to...kind of once again, the historical norms, right? The growth rates, historical norms. And I think you're going to see that in return to the market returning to historical levels. So eight to 10%, maybe eight to 12%, 10% to 12% after you add in dividend yield, total return. A return to that would be completely normal and completely welcome. You can't go year after year with 25% and 30% returns, not going to happen. And so if you describe that as a recession, I would say, okay. I don't describe that as a recession at all. I don't see a recession in the future, either in earnings or in the economy," he said.
